Hochkar is a resort at the beginning of the Austrian Alps. So we went there to check it freeride faces and the taste of their powder snow. Tomas Zelinka took some nice shots just to show the beauty of the resort.

When we were choosing a resort to ride some freeride I just realized that there is Hochkar. Not that far away from Brno . I'd like to first mention a few parameters of the resort. Lifts will take you to a height of 1808m towards its highest peak, Hochkar, which is also the highest peak of the Göstling Alps. These are located on the Lower Austrian - Styrian border. We went from Brno and 310 km long journey took us a little over three hours. So it was just fine. There are 5 fourseat lifts, 1 double chair lift, 2 lifts, 1 practice lift, snowpark, children's ski world, 3.3 kilometers of light, medium and heavy 10 km and 4.5 km of difficult slopes.

Me and my brother, we we thinking about to go for Jasna Adrenalin FWQ comp or to mentioned Hochkar. Jasna would clearly be more a matter of a few beers and shots and as we all know, the weather is unpredictable at Chopok. So clearly, we picked up powder snow and blue sky at Hochkar. Robin Ševčík was of the same opinion and we had no choice but to pack up and go to powder work in crew composed by Tomas, Robin, Zuzka and Zeldy.

Arrival at our place was very pleased, azure and powder. We unpacked our gear and just sat on the elderly loveseats, we went straight to the top of Hochkar. Here you will meet probably the biggest freeride zone, which is in the resort. Throughout the valley, which leads funicular is a few nice rocky steep lines, where yoz can even jump something. Proof of freeride potential is also this stop FWQ series, which went to the local slopes.

And so we rode some nice faces, took some riding pictures, just chillin. The result are at our photo gallery HERE. The afternoon we went to a smaller survey of the whole resort. We took it in turn nicely and so we went to the top Vorgipfel, Häsing and in the end on Leckerplan. Interesting are the plains between peaks Vorgipfel and Häsing. However, more for beginners. Thus, everything is ridden within a few days after a snowfall. Slope "stylers" are attacking from all sides.

As for accommodation we chose private house in the nearby village Palfau. It is a few kilometers and guesthouses there's more than enough. In conclusion, I evaluate Hochkar as a resort in which to go immediately after a snowfall and a maximum of three to four days. There is no powder job for more days there probably will not find a untouched powder because slope "stylers" are riding everywhere except the rocky couloirs.
