Review of CoreUpt - Born To Drop

rider in the storm

Thanks to cooperation of our redaction with guys around www.snowpanic.cz , we got an opportunity to test skis Coreupt Born To Drop. This brand of skis is on the market relatively shortly – since year 2008. At that time they were joined by the big world riders like Candide Thovex, TJ Schiller, or Colby West. Richard Permin also didn’t stay behind, he came from Fischer. These riders influenced in a great way the development of this brand and they still do. Besides TJ Shiller who has left it in 2010.

These riders influenced in a great way the development of this brand and they still do. Besides TJ Shiller who has left it in 2010. But now to the ski test itself. The test drivers were Jirka Zelinka and David Knybel (redaction of powderline.cz).

Jirka Zelinka

During this year‘s January nad February we have made a few trips to the Austrian Alps where we could test the skis. I can say, that the conditions for this test were really diverse so we had a chance to try the skis on many kinds of surfaces. I have personally participated in only one test and I didn’t have the very ideal conditions in terms of surface. But also this is a part of freeriding so I didn’t hesitate and I took the skis to icy base or to the slope. On these kinds of terrains is the ski quite unstable and it is difficult to get to the bend. Out of the slope on harder broken surface it wasn‘t so hard to control the skis. But a problem came by getting to the slope, where many of us end after necessary crossing between lifts, resorts etc. It’s not easy to control the ski on the slope, it still waves somehow. Nevertheless I think, that this ski is not intended to it, so I don’t give big importance to it. In free terrain it’s easy to control and tough enough. Due to that it nicely keeps track in impacts after jumps. You can read more about behaviour of the skis in the powder in following part from David Knybel, who was more lucky about snow.

After that, when the skis appeared in my hand, I knew immediately that it’s not just an ordinary ski. On the first sight it was an atypical shape. „Camber“ of the ski was classical, but about twice as big as we know it. After putting of the skis together there was a gap of 2 cm. The next surprise was the tip of the ski, which had no radius and the uplift of the front part of the ski was managed only by the „rocker“, which could be squashed flat to the ground. Wide, tough ski, under boot 125 mm and radius under 30 m suggested easy control in tight spaces so it only remained to make the riding test.

I tested the ski both in powder and on icy surface and because there weren’t the very best snow conditions, the first in line was the second option. It was really icy surface of a slope, with which was the ski fighting the same way as I fought with the ski. It was still waving and keep the ride straight in full speed was probably over my abilities. But when I took it out of this „pist“, then came the „so good“. I tested the ski as it’s written in it’s name - „Born to drop“. The ski reacted quite promisingly to my every command and the drops with it were really fulfilling. Thanks to big camber it absorbed the impacts really that good, that I was immediately ready for another. Easy moving over the rocks was no problem. It was no problem in the forest as well, it reacted to the rider’s commands right away.

Conclusion: Ski to powder, which really holds at the impact! It really doesn’t like the slope, but you can move there, of course. In big BC lines, it tends to do more curves than you intended. I certainly recommend.

Hlavně jezdci s dobrou technikou a sklonem k agresivnější jízdě by z ní měli vyždímat maximum :)

biu :) :D :( :o) ;) :'( >:) :B-) 8-) :-{ =) >:( ? ! {}
