Lysa Hora – The queen of Beskyd

Lysa Hora – The queen of Beskyd

Lysa Hora is the highest mountain in Beskydy mountains. Its peak is at 1324m above sea level, which guarantees good snow conditions throughout the winter. If you decide to go to Lysa, you must count on a pretty nice walk because it does not have any lift which would take you all the way to the top. This has also a good advantage coz the pow is not ruined in couple of days and stays in good condition for five days in a row without new snow fall.

You can get on Lysa from two sides, the river valley Mohelnice (from the village of Krasna) or from the opposite side of Malenovic. If you set out from Kransa there are two ways. Eighter way Řepčonka and Goldsmith is good but we prefer to start from Řepčonky where you can find better lines to ride.  To get to Řepčonka you need to go from Frýdek-Místek direction Dobrá, Nošovice, Raškovice and than Kransa. It is better to wake up earlier because of parking lot which is usually full. If you travel by bus it's easy. Just get on in Frýdek and go directly to Řepčonka bus stop. The bus stops at the lodge which you go round it from the right and carry on up into the forest on well-worn path (Map 1) and if not going too slowly you will get there in about half an hour. In exceptional cases tha path may not be well-worn and if this happe its better be prepare to have trackers  or snowshoes. However, this happens only rarely in working days when is really bad weather. At the top of Lysa there are two restaurants where you can get hot meal and warm up.

And now better part of this trip -  downhill. The best place to put your skies on is at the ski patrol   house where you turn toward the transmitter, than continue down into the woods where you travel until you reach the first road recognized by come acrossing a wooden fence. Crawl under the fence and then interlace among small pine treesd until you get to large spruce forests, which continues to the second path, which has usually well prepared cross-country ski trail. In the place where you come out of the woods, you'll see under the road a creek which you will follow. After about 500 meters you will reach the place where you can not go to the creek and turn on the forest path that leads along the creek to the Řepčonku where you went this morning. The way is still slightly downhill, but towards the end you should helm your selft to move with poles a little bit. Not pleasant for snowboarders. I recommend this option only if there is a lot of snow where small pines are buried. If the snow condition is as good as the little pines are buried, it is better to go from the mountain to the already former northern slopes, which is not as steep, but you can go there pretty quickly. Sjezd končí stejně jako ten lesní na druhé cestě, na které si šlápnete 50 metrů vpravo a dostanete se ke korytu potoka, odkud pokračujete potokem a dále cestou až na Řepčonku. Downhill ends as well as the forest on the second road, on which you hike about  50 meters to the right and you get to the creek which you will follow  until you reach the road which goes to the Řepčonk.

Another option of you downhill line is Malenovicky’s kettle. If you choose to transport by car, and after passing Malenovice you continue along the main road going straight to the hotel Petr Bezruč. Here you can leave your car and all the comfort ends. From the hotel go to a well trodden path to the top of the ridge Ivančena (peak next to the Bald Mountain). Regarding to the trails, no worries that it woud not be a well trodden path. So, when we get to the spine, join the blue marker and let it leads you in a well trodden path to the summit. If you decide to go by bus, so the way is similar. If you set out from Frydek-Mistek or from Ostrava, sit on the bus towards the Frýdlant Ostravicí, ther jump on a bus going to Frýdlant n / O direction to Malenovice Bezruč hotel and then just continue following the path previously described.

To get to the final downhill itself, you must undergo even less walk to the stone indicating the summit. When looking towards to Frýdlant you see the passage between the railing and the fence weather station and go about 30 meters along the fence toward the building of the meteorological station. At this point you would say that the man who wrote this is a bone head or something coz the only thing when you look towards the kettle is just a lot of small shrubs and trees. Find your way through the majority of this stretch of bushes is not a big deal, there are already rutted tracks from local ski-alp boys. In case you were lucky and got to untouche powder, you really can just cross section of about 50 meters straight down and suddenly the first part Malenovického kettle will open. After passing this part it will  take you on a path around the hill, where after a slight turn to the right you will see in the well growned forest a gateway to the plain. After passing the plain you will appear on another path leading contour the hill. There you will, useing poles, go about 100 meters to the left and continue into the beech forest and you try to go slightly to the left. In the beech forest is old wood factory which will lead you to asphalt road directioning around the riding school, ski slopes in Satin and on the main road to the hotel Malenovic Bezruč.

Before you go to Lysa, I strongly suggest to look at the webcam and see the current weather at www.lysahora.cz. Lysa Hora has usually different (worse) weather than the surrounding hills.

Now let's hope that the snow will dump even more than in last year a also we hope that none of you get lost. So take care on Lysa and maybe we will meet you up there in the winter.
