Trip for powder

Insert: 05.02.2011
If you sit for a month at home and wait in vain until it finally starts to snow, and then it suddenly comes and you’re ready to go for some powder even over the weekend, although you wouldn’t do it usually, because everybody knows how will it look like, even though the forecast says azure. But when it two days before snows thirty centimeters of powder and even when it’s clear, that all powder-hungry vultures will come, still man packs up and sets out to the Alps, and that’s the peak of withdrawal symptoms.

And because it really didn’t seem very favorably, man must choose a resort where is some solid base, otherwise is that thirty centimeters useless. After long thinking we decide for Obertauern. We’re absolutely clear about how it will look like on saturday, but we don’t actually care. It’s most important after a month to ride at least a few rides in powder. We’re arranged that way, that we’ll sleep at Vlasto’s place and in the morning will drive together to Obertauern. It’s a big help when man doesn’t have to drive over night and to ride in the morning, we all know that.

Obertauern welcomes us with a traffic jam, but also with regular lot of powder. Although in lower places lacks a meter of base, that is usually there, above is a lot of snow and the first line is from psycho category, the snow comes over head and the ride is pretty good. We take another line, but the more it comes to the midday the more we have to search for an unbroken slope. There’re really lots of freeriders and what’s more – the slope-skiers...... One would burst with rage, when he sees those carving skiers in deep snow. They can’t ride, but they still have to do there.

After lunch is obvious that it won’t be anything to be riding on. The whole Obertauern is crisscross broken, also the slopes where man must skin for ybout an hour are rutted to last line. Pity that the base is only so little to ride the lines, which makes here Vlasto. Maybe some other time.

So we decide on sunday fot Planneralm. We were they last years and we enjoyed that, mostly it’s a small resort so there weren’t too many people. But when we arrive in Planneralm we don’t even get off the car. There, where we were riding last year in a hlaf meter powder lacks a meter of snow. Everywhere are sticking dwarf pines to the height of shoulders, so here‘s not. The decision is quick, we go to Tauplitz. We’ve never been there before, but I’ve been looking for this resort for some time and I was planning to visit it once. What’s more, it was clear that they have a serious snow cover, it only wasn’t clear if there’s anywhere to ski.

And that really is. Although it was sunday and it was really nice weather since friday we still managed to find non-rutted places. Considering that it’s a small alpine resort, the possibilities to ride nearby are surprisingly big. Rider can choose from many options and types of downhills. There are pretty steep slopes, on the bottom of one kettle is a rope especially for freeriders, may they don’t have to leg it two hundred metres to the slope. Beautiful terrains are especially along the Lawinenstein massif, there can everybody pick his peace of cake. But most those forests. I’d never say that I’ll ruch to the Alps even if it would be bad weather, we always set out just when it should be nice, but here was certain that we will go even if it isn’t beautiful weather. Mainly if there’s something to ride on. Tauplitz surprised us very pleasantly and we were clearly decide, that we’ll return here once, when it snows some powder. We only didn’t have an idea, that it will be so soon.

Bye Komanč
