Judges

I will start in the order .. About 3 years ago I have been firts time to Nendaz. Then I saw pictures of Nendaz Freeride and I said to myself, that it would be great if I got to such a prestigious race as a judge .. And the day came! In February I received an email, that the organizers of the competition are looking for judges and I said that my chance had come, so why not to use it.

Last week I headed out on Wednesday the direction of Nendaz. The composition of the crew Kate, Misha, Mark and Me, we arrived late at night to Verbier, where we finally got one powder day for riding .. No, nothing for the envy, spring snow and heat it if you would like to know.

The races were changed for a day, because they forecasted a change of weather, so we started with Nezdaz Open on Friday. Every racer had to pass two qualify rides in one day. What I didn’t envy them at all, you had to go for an hour fo first face and the second was regular test of condition, because it was rutted and because of spring weather and changes of temperature there was frozen snow. I with Raulom Diezom a Florianom Bühlerom earned better view and we could decide at  Dent de Nendaz. Nice, broken terrain offered a lot of opportunities, which unfortunately wasn’t used by many riders. There were also some surprises, when to Saturday’s finale didn‘t get names as Liz Kristoferitch, Ursula Wohlschlager (they both belong to the top of FWT), Christine Hargin, Matilda Rapaport a Alzieu  David. To Saturday’s finale got Hanna Fischer, which comes back to FWQ races after last year’s heavy injury. Our Katka Lehocká didn’t get to the finale and Jan Kurz with Vláďa Svozil reached nice 34. and 37. place. Common dinner and the ceremony was followed by the film Nomádi from brothers Falquetos and then quick way to bed, because Saturday promised a lot of nice rides.

When we arrived on Saturday it was cloudy and windy, but nothing changed our day full of interesting, but also average rides. Breakfast and riders meeting on Plan du Fou, move to Mont Gont and get party started. As first riders were girls SNB, cause they protested to chop and change with women skiers. Then followed women skier category which I am interested in more. In my opinion the best of the best was Eva Walker who unfortunately did not make the last drop and got NO SCORE. Eva showed flunt ride with 4 middle jumps, 1 "men" jump and used the whole of face which was the most important. This was exactly the ride we (jurymen) want to see!!! Next surprise were 2 mega jumps Janette Hargin who might be raked among men (some of them would learn from her) and also the Janina Kuzma`s flunt and nice ride. Boys SNB/SKI went on bench. In men ski category Ludo Lovey showed that starting on last place could win. And Christian Schnabel could celebrate his first place in ranking FWQ and potential continue to Freeride World Tour in 2012

Evening prize giving and party in a very pleasant style, that is, until the cold red wine, which the were offering. Regarding  my 24 hour journey home I would rather not talk, but I can say that it was worth it and I'm glad I could be part of this race. More photo HERE and HERE
