On the 22nd of August our family, namely me Jacob Valigura cousin John Pechout brother Ivan, mom and dad, set out on vacation to South America. Plan was clear, skiing in Chile and see relics in Peru.

After arrival to Santiago de Chille we rented a car and set out for a trip to ski resort Termas de Chillan. This place is not so big, but we were attracted by being surrounded with volcano – Volcan Nuevo de Chilla, Viejo de Chillan and Nevados de Chillan. In the evening we checked in and looked forward to skiing.

In the morning we woke up and found out that sun was shining but the snow conditions wasn´t good. There was spring already. Thanks to speed on the ski lift, we had enough time to take a look around over the surrounding hills. We did some run on ski slopes to warm up. Then we started skiing off piste in BC. In the beginning there was hard snow crust but in time it melted into firm, on which the skiing was much better. In the evening we decided to hike Volcan Nuevo next coming day.

Sunny in the morning again, so we came to the lift with full of enthusiasm. After we took the lift up we suddenly found out, that is quite windy and hike will not be so pleasant. So we rather decided to ski along ski slopes. In the afternoon the lift even stopped its operation at the top station, which caused limited choice of the terrains. Anyway we ended sooner and went to a Jacuzzi.

The day after the weather was not as good as previous days. Only lower lift was running and the weather forecast for other days wasn´t good. So we decided to end there for that time and move on.

We went back to Santiago and then by plane to Lima. In Peru we saw the main sights graphs in desert on Nazca tableland, Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu, and voyage on Titicaca lake and historic centre of Lima.

After return to Termas we were welcomed by sun again and finding, that there was the same amount of snow how we left it couple days ago. The temperature during the day was really springtime, about 10oC.

Next day we took some runs along the slopes. But another day we could not have waited much longer. John, Ivan and me, loaded the car, drove to the highest park and then put on skins actually snowshoes and went on Volcan Nuevo. After 5 hours of hiking we finally reached the top. The hiking time could have been shortened in half by taking some lifts what we did 2 days ago. Downhill run was rather easy, nothing difficult.

In the end we also set out to Volcan Nevados with quite steep descent. We set off  in good weather, but in time was getting worse. On the top there was really bad condition, which did not allowed us riding the lower part. We just didn´t see where it goes didn´t want to end up in Argentina. So we skied down the same way we hiked up. Anyway as usual after 15 minutes the sky became crystal blue and we could see the whole descent.

The last 2 days we rode mainly the slopes, because the snow melted during the week and also the weather wasn´t so good.

Few tips:  Don´t count, that everybody understands you in other language than Spain. The sun goes from east to north to west. So the opposite orientations of the mountain’s face. This took me 2 days to figure it out.
