Freeski roadtrip behin the arctic cycle

Or freeride between fjords

Insert: 13.04.2010
It was some time ago when Dominik said to me that he is preparing to go with couple of friends to ride a powder to Norway. I was hoping that we will tell us about this unusual freeride road trip. And it is here. You can read couple of words and check the photos from this heliski trip behind the arctic cycle. Check it out!!! (zeldy)

During the autumn I got a call form Patrik Školník if we did not want to go to Norway for freeriding. So word after word and after I went by a car over my bag with gear we headed to Denmark. Around evening we was in Norefjell which is located about 100km northwest from Oslo. It was about +6 degrees so we was not so keen. Patrik as the local employee arranged for us a luxury apartement and spa. So the begining was perfect. The first day we were skiing in Noreflell resort. Is it a resort with 1000m lattitude but high temperatures allowed to ski only couple of carving runs and spring snow. In year 1952 there took place a ski part of Oslo winter olympics. After that day is our crew completed (Patrik, Mates   Nykles, Jirka Lausecker a me). We headed to North, 1452km, 22h of driving and the finish in Narvik. During our drive to the North the temperature went down a it stated to snow. Couple of kilometers behind the Arctic cycle we found powder heaven. Happiness, thats was our feelings. Last trasport over the last fjord and we were in Narvik in Quality Grand Royal Narvik.

Salmon for the beakfast and mainly hard snow storm. Easy morning, the resort is openning about 11 oclock. We took a gondola and waiting for Mates´s ski because it fell from gondola. In the meantime we are amazed by incredible view which is around us. Mountains which are falling straight to the sea, fjords from both sides, ships... Just typical view for skiers .... We were riding as much powder as we could. At the end of the day went for a small hike to the local top and did last run during luxurious sun set to our hotel. Good beer at the end of the day and we were hoping for the best another. Next day was in the style of Big in Japan and tons of powder in local forest. Unfortunately my knee started to hurt so I am chilling at the afternoon.

And it is morning again. Salmon sandwich to the pocket and quickly to the 50km distant Swedish  Riksgrensen. Meeting with guide and waiting for the blue sky. We are going for a couple of runs and nice powder fields. We did 3 lines and new meeting with the guide. Couple of instrictions and we are sitting in the heli and flying to the untouched terrains. Heliski is fantasy for me, amazing and I would apriciate it every time on skies. We are enjoying it on maximum. Jirka killed it again with a perfect line. We are shooting and riding. At the end of the day we asked the pilot to took us to one nice peak and got amazing powder run. The got to the hotel in the night had a small party with Jameson. Juat perfect day.

Next day was a chilling day. Couple of nice snow fields and cornices after wich we got a warning from ski patrol. We did not uderstand why and we told them couple of words as well. Then we headed to the Norway towards Lofoten islands. Again amazing nature and we feel that it will be incredible. The next stop is Svolvaer city.

The Lofoten islands are about 300km long and connected with motorway. The mountains are more that 1000m from the sea so it is possible to hike everywhere and ride staight to the coast. Here are tons and tons of possible lines. If somebody get lucky and got a speed boat like we did, is able to ride and catch couple of fish. You have to got this experience or atl least watch our movie from this trip.

It realy reccomend the Scandinavia, it is unforgettable. The beginning of the trip in Narvik, then couple of heliski days in Riksgrensen and the last part at the Lofoten islands. It also good to ride with Jirka Lausecker, he knows the mountains and he is also good skier. No need to have an articles in local news. So more in our short film. Soon on powderline.
